Data & Privacy Policy

1. Our Philosophy: Privacy by Design

Cuento is built on a Zero-PII (Personally Identifiable Information) model. We believe you should be able to tell stories without leaving a digital footprint.

No Emails: We do not collect or store email addresses.
No Real Data: Your account is identified solely by a nickname.
No Tracking: We do not use tracking cookies or sell user data.

2. Public Content & Narrative Integrity

This is a collaborative storytelling environment. To maintain the integrity and readability of the world for all players, public forum posts and character sheets are considered part of the shared narrative. By registering on any Cuento site, you grant the platform a perpetual license to retain and display your posts and character information to ensure story continuity, even after you leave the site.

Warning! The posts in general topics will also be retained. While all posts written under the account name will become anonymized by design, the information you have shared in this topics, including your personal information, will stay publicly available on the site.

The Severance: Upon archival of your user account, we permanently destroy the technical link between your login credentials and your posts. Your username is replaced by a generic identifier (e.g., The_Nameless_One). Once this link is severed, the action is irreversible. We cannot “re-link” posts to a new account because the connection no longer exists in our database.

3. Private Messages: Total User Sovereignty

Your private correspondence belongs to you. We provide a unique mechanism for you to maintain control over your Private Messages (DMs) even after you leave the platform.

Recovery Codes: Upon registration, the system generates a set of unique recovery codes. Store these safely. They are your only cryptographic proof of ownership of your private messages.

Default Retention: If you archive your account, or if your account is banned, your DMs remain accessible to your conversation partners by default to preserve history. However, the link to your login credentials is severed.

The DM Wipe Tool: If you wish to delete these messages from the database entirely, you may do so at any time—even without logging in. By using your recovery code, you can prove ownership of the DMs previously associated with your account and trigger a permanent deletion. This action does not require approval from site administration or other conversation participants.

4. User Responsibility & Verification

Because we do not collect emails or real-world identity markers, we have no way to “verify” your identity via traditional support channels.

Warning: If you lose both your password and your recovery codes, we cannot recover your private messages or delete your data for you. While administrators may be able to reset a password, doing so without the original keys will result in the permanent loss of all previous DMs.

5. Technical Security

Your DMs are protected using cryptographically safe private keys. Your password, recovery codes, private keys, and the content of your private messages are never stored in plain text.

Neither the administrators nor the developers of the site can recover this information. This ensures that your private messages remain confidential between you and your intended interlocutor.

By removing the link between your login credentials and your message history (Anonymization), Cuento ensures compliance with the core principles of the GDPR and CPPA regarding personal information protection.

The DM Wipe Tool specifically fulfills your Right to Erasure, allowing you to remove sensitive private data even after your relationship with the platform has ended.
